Left meet begins to decide future course
New Delhi, Jul 8 (UNI) The crucial meeting of the Left parties to decide on the withdrawal of support from the 50-month-old United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government began here today.
The meeting was preponed for four-and-a-half hours in view of the urgency of the matter, following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's announcement that his government would go to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) soon to negotiate the India's specific safeguards agreement.
Besides Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, Left leaders A B Bardhan and Debabrata Biswas are among others attending the meet at CPI(M) headquarters AK Gopalan Bhawan.
Left parties will also discuss UPA-Left panel convener Pranab Mukherjee's proposal to hold another meeting of the panel on July 10.
