HP trade unions resolve to make August 20 strike successful
Shimla, Jul 7 (UNI) Several Himachal Pradesh trade unions today resolved to participate in all India strike on August 20 in protest of Central Government's failure to check prices of essential commodities and to press for implementation of labour laws.
The trade unions have decided to hold a convention here on July 20 in preparation for the August 20 strike, Centre for Indian Trade Union's (CITU) general secretary Kashmir Singh said in a release here.
He said this decision was taken at a meeting of the general secretary of the convenor of the central government employees K L Gautam, chairman Prem Lal Verma, spokesman Parshotam Chauhan, AITCU's general secretary Roshan Lal Dogra, NZIEA's state secretary Devi Dass, CITU state president Ravinder Kumar, AG Office's secretary D S Chauhan and president Jagmohan Thakur, besides others.
The August 20 strike is being organised to urge the government to check prices of essential commodities, besides extension of the public distribution system (PDS) to cover the entire country and providing cheap rations to the public, he said.
He said they were also against future trading in essential commodities and strict action against black marketeers and hoarders.
Besides, implementation of labour laws and wages, the trade unions also seek lifting a ban on recruitment in government services and regularising the services of rural postal sevaks.
