Mumbai, Jul 7 (UNI) A local court has rejected an anticipatory bail application (ABA) of Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh Kasim Azmi, brother of Maharashtra party chief Abu Azmi, for his alleged involvement in an extortion and forgery case.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinay Joshi, while rejecting the bail application on Friday last, observed that prime face a case has been made out against him.

MIDC police had registered a case against Kasim and three of his associates -- Mohammad Aslam, Jamaluddin Shaikh and Riyaz Ahmed.

While Shaikh and Ahmed were arrested at that time, police had said action against Kasim and Aslam would be taken after interrogating the duo about their role in the case.

A 74-year-old Layek Ahmed Mohammad Shaikh, in a complaint against them, had stated that Kasim and the other accused had forcibly made him sign blank documents and took possession of his 3,189.5 acres of land at Andheri, a western suburb.

However, Kasim Azmi, who was present during the hearing, fled from the court fearing his arrest minutes before the pronouncement of the order, Shaikh alleged today.
