Left's withdrawal of support to UPA Govt could only help BJP : Ravi
Kochi, Jul 6 (UNI) Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today said if the Left withdraws support to the UPA Government, it will only help the BJP.'' Addressing a gathering at the district level Congress committee meeting here, Mr Ravi said '' It was up to the Left to decide on whether to withdraw support to the UPA Government or not. But if they withdraw support, it would only help the BJP.'' On the textbook issue, Mr Ravi alleged that the LDF Government and the CPM were trying to demean the national leaders of the country through the textbooks being taught at the schools.
He said national leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru were portrayed as anti-religious in the textbooks.
He urged the State Government to immediately correct the mistakes in the textbooks.
Speaking on the occasion, Opposition leader in the Kerala Assemby Oomen Chandy said there was a hidden agenda to spread communism through the textbooks.
''Instead of giving a clear picture of the freedome struggle, the CPM in the textbooks was trying to misintepret history,'' he added.
KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala and others were present on the occasion.
