Narendra Rastogi remanded in police custody till July 11
Mumbai, Jul 5 (UNI) After languishing in prison in the United States for 7 years in a fraud case, businessman Narendra Kumar Rastogi, who was extradited to India in a custom duty evasion case, was remanded in police custody till July 11 by a CBI special court today.
Moving an application, counsel for the CBI P Arun prayed for accused's custody for further interrogation pertaining to documents and other details of the case.
A Special CBI court Judge (Ms) C K Bhide granted police custoty till July 11.
Rastogi was extradited from the US yesterday, after completing his sentence in a fraud case. He was arrested this morning by the CBI, Mr Arun said.
According to the prosecution, Rastogi, alongwith 24 other persons, had committed a fraud to the tune of Rs 42 crore.
Rastogi and others, who were in the business of exporting bicycle parts to Russia, Hong Kong and other countries used to claim false duty drawback from the Customs Department by showing fulfillment of false export obligations by submitting forged customs documents, the prosecution added.
They also used to show excess over invoices by fraudulent ways to get back the duty drawbacks.
