Commission mulls OBC status for HP communities

Shimla, Jul 4 (UNI) The National Commission for Backward Classes will consider some communities in Himachal Pradesh, which are socially, economically and educationally backward, for inclusion in the Central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for the state.

This was stated by Commission Chairman Justice S Ratnavel Pandian who held a public hearing yesterday regarding various requests received by the Commission from the state government.

In the meeting, the Commission discussed the demands of communities like Jaat, Jat, Batehda, Badhai, Ramgarhia, Dhiman, populace living in Malana village of Kullu district and Choharka in Chohar valley of Mandi district for inclusion in Central list of Other Backward Classes for the state.

The Chairman said that case of those communities who are socially, economically and educationally backward sections of the society would be considered for inclusion in OBC category on the basis of the reasons they placed before the Commission for the purpose.

He asked the representatives of various communities to submit an affidavit containing the reasons and justification against their claim within 4 weeks.

About 100 representatives and office bearers of various organisations of castes and communities drawn from across that State attended the hearing.
