VHP's 'Bharat Bandh' finds surprise success in Assam
Guwahati, Jul 03 (UNI) Life was disrupted throughout the state today as the VHP-sponsored 'Bharat Bandh' registered unexpected impact in Assam.
Despite lack of awareness about the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) issue and very little local media coverage on it, the VHP-sponsored bandh, backed by the BJP, registered partial response.
Although private vehicles plied normally, public transport remained off the roads while all the banks and private offices as well as business establishments remained closed.
The VHP does not have a strong presence in Assam but today's unexpected success has given them a fillip.
However, there were no reports of any untoward incidents while all the trains and flights operated normally.
