Illicit liquor manufacturing unit raided

Puducherry, July 3 (UNI) The Puducherry Excise police today busted an illicit liquor manufacturing unit at Odeanpet, near here, and seized liquor and machinery worth over Rs 2.5 lakh.

The Excise police said that based on a tip off that illicit liquor was being brewed in a dilapidated building inside a garden at Odeanpet, they raided the premises and seized 106 cartons, each containing 48 bottles of liquor, empty bottles, corks, labels and machineries. However, the occupants managed to flee the spot.

It was learnt that the garden belonged to one Ganesan and Ramu of Shanmughapuram, presently residing in France, and was under the supervision of a watchman.

The Excise police, along with Mudaliarpet police, were on the look out for the gang and the watchman.
