New insurance scheme for unorganised sector workers
Thiruvananthapuram,July 2(UNI) The Kerala Government has decided to introduce a comprehensive insurance scheme for workers in unorganised sector and their families, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said today.
Briefing on Cabinet decisions to reporters here, he said the Cabinet had given its approval for implementing the scheme in the state and the government would give 75 per cent of the premium as subsidy to the BPL families.
According to the terms, the insurance company would give Rs 30,000 towards hospitalisation expenses to the insured family, he said adding the scheme would be implemented throughout the state.
Mr Achuthanandan said the Cabinet had also given administrative sanction for starting 30 MW Achankovil Hydro-electro Project.
The project would be implemented only after getting environmental sanction, he added.
It also approved the appointment of Former Air India Chairman V Thulasidas as the Special Officer for the Kannur Airport, Mr Kuruvilla John, IAS, as the Higher Education Principal Secretary and Ms V Geetha as Medical Education Director, he added.
