HC posts advocates' plea against CBI for hearing on July 16

Chennai, July 2 (UNI) Madras High Court today posted for final hearing on July 16, the implead petition by Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA), challenging Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) action against advocates who give legal opinion to banks on immovable properties before advancing loans.

When the case came up for hearing before Justice K Mohanram, CBI special Public Prosecutor N Chandrasekharan received the notice in person. Association President Paul Kanakaraj appeared in person for the MHAA.

The association filed a case against the CBI for ''harassing'' the advocates who give legal opinion to banks on immovable properties for the purpose of advancing loans in an intervening petition. The petition seeked direction to restrain the CBI from questioning advocates or filing cases against them when the documents produced by the bank while giving loans were found to be fake or forged.
