Lorry strike: TN Govt gears up to ensure supply of essentials
Chennai, Jul 1 (UNI) With the truck owners all set to launch an indefinite strike from midnight tonight, the Tamil Nadu government has geared up to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the people.
Considering the interests of the general public, the State government has decided to transport essential items like milk and vegetables through State Transport Corporation buses and trains with adequate police protection.
The District Collectors had been advised to take necessary steps in this regard, an official release said.
The truck owners' indefinite strike will begin from midnight tonight, following a call given by the All India Motor Transport Congress to protest against the short supply of diesel and the recent hike in prices of petroleum products.
