CPI(M) urges Centre to facilitate supply of ordinary petrol
Chennai, Jul 1 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today urged the Centre to ensure that the public sector oil companies make available ordinary petrol and diesel to consumers.
CPI(M) state unit Secretary N Varadarajan, in a statement here, said after the Centre hiked the fuel prices, general public were put to hardship as most of the petrol pump stations were forcing them to buy only high speed petrol and diesel, which cost them an additional expenditure of Rs three to five.
The short supply, especially of diesel in most of the petrol bunks in the state added the woes of the public, he said, and urged the Centre and oil companies to take immediate steps to streamline the distribution of petrol and diesel.
He said the indefinite strike announced by the truck owners would further push the prices of essentials. The Centre and State Governments should take steps to avoid the strike by holding talks with them, he suggested.
