Karunanidhi honours scholars

Chennai, Jun 28: The Tamil Nadu government today nationalised the works of 27 Tamil scholars like 'Kavignar' Periyasamy Thooran, Prof Ka Vellai Varanar, Ka Ayothidasar and Abraham Pandithar and presented Rs 1.65 crore to their legal heirs.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi distributed the solatium to the legal heirs of these scholars at the state Secretariat here, an official release said.

While the legal heirs of 21 Tamil scholars were given a total amount of Rs 1.15 crore, the heirs of six other Tamil scholars would be given the solatium after they produced the required documents, the release said.

The legal heirs, who received the solatium thanked the Chief Minister for implementing the scheme of honouring scholars, which they said would go a long way in protecting the interests of the heirs of the Taimil scholars.
