GNDU gets STC Day Scholar Extension Centre
Amritsar, Jun 28 (UNI) The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has established STC Day Scholar Extension Centre at Guru Nanak Dev University Campus from the current academic session 2008-09.
Disclosing this here, Dr Kanwaljit Singh, Director of Sports of Guru Nanak Dev University said that the SAI had set up this centre under the National Sports Talent Centre (NSTC) scheme. This Centre has been provided on long term basis to enable and nurture junior sports talent scientfically that have attained excellence at junior and sub-junior levels, he added.
"This prestigious centre has been alloted to the university keeping in view its unparalled and excellent sports achievements at the national level." He said the SAI in the first instance would hold selection trials for handball (girls) and hockey (girls) at the university campus here on July 3-4. The players must be within the age group of 14 to 22 years.
He said the selected players would get a stipend of Rs 6000 per trainee per year alongwith a competition exposure of Rs 2000 per trainee per year.
Moreover, each trainee would receive Rs 4000 per annum as Sports Kit Allowance and an insurance cover upto Rs 150 per annum.
