Punjab farmers to get Rs 986.82 cr under debt waiver scheme
Chandigarh, Jun 27 (UNI) Over 33.2 lakh farmers of Punjab would get relief amounting to Rs 986.82 crores under agriculture debt waiver announced by the Union Government.
Punjab Chief Secretary Ramesh Inder Singh today held a meeting to review the implementation of the debt waiver scheme. It was informed in the meeting that loan amounting to Rs 634.56 crore of 17,9,160 small and marginal farmers would be waived under the scheme.
Additionally 15,3,712 farmers would get relief amounting to Rs 352.62 crores.
It was informed in the meeting that all nationalised and cooperative banks have identified the beneficiaries of this scheme and lists of the beneficiaries have been already displayed on the notice board of each branch.
Financial Commissioner Cooperation Kusumjit Sidhu said that every bank has been asked to disbursed the relief and waive the loan amount by June 30, 2008 positively.
