Justice Joseph Appointed Supreme Court Judge

New Delhi, Jun 27 (UNI) Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph has been appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of India by President Pratibha Patil, the Law and Justice Ministry announced today.

The appointment with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office raises to 25 the number of Judges in the apex court, which has a sanctioned strength of 26.

Besides an existing vacancy, three Supreme Court Judges are due to retire within four months, a Ministry source said.
