Catholica Congress to stage dharna on textbook issue

Kottayam, June 27 (UNI) The All Kerala Catholica Congress (AKCC) will stage demonstrations here on June 30, demanding withdrawal of the controversial seventh standard social science textbook.

At a news conference here today, AKCC President M D Joseph Manniparambil, General Secretary Jose Vithayathil and other leaders charged the State Government with trying to sow the seeds of atheism, materialism, communism and class agitation in young minds and it should be opposed.

They also condemned the ''fascist'' style of functioning of the State Education Minister in maintaining that the textbook would not be withdrawn.

Dharnas and meetings would be staged throughout the State on June 30 under the auspices of the AKCC in response to a call given by the Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council, they said.
