Nokia Siemens inks pact with TN Govt for setting up facility
Chennai, June 26 (UNI) Mobile major Nokia Siemens today signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu Government for setting up a mobile spare parts and telecom infrastructure facility at the SIPCOT SEZ at Oragadam, near here.
The MoU was signed by State Industries Secretary M F Farooqui and Nokia Siemens Networks Limited Director Suresh Wadhwani in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the State Secretariat.
An official release here said the company would invest about Rs 300 crore over three years in the facility, which would also manufacture various electronic hardware equipment.
The facility, which would provide direct job opportunities to 400 people and indirect jobs to 100 others, would further establish Chennai as a telecommunication hardware centre as major companies like Nokia, Motorola and Samsung have already set up their manufacturing units here.
