No newspapers for third day this month in Manipur
Imphal, Jun 26 (UNI) No newspapers were published in Manipur today which was the third such day this month.
The entire journalist fraternity discussed the prevailing situation in the state yesterday at the Manipur Press Club and took the decision not to publish any newspapers today.
The mediapersons took this decision as militants were pressurising the journalists to publish their statements while the state government had warned to take action against the newspapers if any news related to the insurgent groups was published.
Earlier this month, there was no publication of newspapers for two days following threats by suspected militants.
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) had been discussing the matter during the past few days the issue was discussed by the general body meeting yesterday.
Another round of talks will be held today with state government officials and the AMWJU.
AMWJU sources said it will follow the rules laid down by the Press Council of India (PCI) and also strictly follow the guidelines framed by the AMWJU. It also appealed to all not to interfere with the freedom of the press.
