Court directs EC to increase testing time for EVMs
Kolkata, Jun 26 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today asked the State Election Commission to reconsider an appeal seeking enhancement of the testing period of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) before polls.
Constesting political parties are allowed to test the EVMs 20 times each before polling begins.
Justice Maharaja Sinha issued the directive on the commission on an appeal of Amjad Ali, former president of Calcutta High Court Bar Association.
Mr Ali pleaded before the court that the agents of political parties participating in the election should be allowed to test EVMs more than 20 times to evade fault in the system.
He also cited some examples before the bench of the problems found in the voting machines during polling.
Justice Sinha directed the commission to reconsider the prayer with appropriate seriousness.
