Cong, BJP trying to indulge in atrocities in Kerala: CPI(M)

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 26 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today asked the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the BJP to keep away from their ongoing agitations, demanding withdrawal of seventh standard social science book for its alleged anti-religious contents.

In a statement here, he alleged that the Congress and the BJP were trying to indulge in atrocities and violence in the State in the name of the textbook.

It was the Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, and the pro-Congress Kerala Students Union (KSU) which unleashed attack on the NGO workers, who organised a march to the State Secretariat protesting against the Centre's ''anti-people'' policy, Mr Vijayan alleged and added that there was no justification in their attack.

Though the Government had made it clear that an expert committee would be appointed to go into the complaints against the textbook, the agitation by the Opposition Congress and other parties were a challenge to the people of the State, he added.
