30,000 farmers to benefit from loan waiver
Shillong, Jun 26 (UNI) About 30,000 farmers of Meghalaya are likely to benefit from the Centre's loan waiver of Rs 60,000 crore, official sources said here today.
With this decision, the farmers who availed loans from various banks in the state, especially Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB) and Rural Regional Bank (RRB), will get relief.
About 20,000 farmers are likely to be covered under the debt relief scheme with an amount of Rs 15 crore from the MCAB itself.
All the 26 branches of the bank are collecting data on the number of farmers who got loans.
The RRB has 50 branches in the state and data on loans given to farmers is being collected. More than 9,000 farmers would be covered under the scheme involving more than Rs five crore.
