Students of 3-yr medical syllabus to be appointed assistants
Raipur, Jun 24 (UNI) Students of three-year medical syllabus of Chhattisgarh would be appointed as medical assistants in rural areas in the state, Health Minister Amar Agarwal said today.
The Health department had issued directions to district collectors to appoint students registered with the State Medical Council as rural medical assistants on contract basis for two years.
However, he said, students would be appointed at primary healthcare centres in their native districts. Newly-appointed medical assistants would receive monthly honorarium of Rs 8,000.
Mr Agarwal said the term of contract could be extended if their performace was found satisfactory.
The three-year medical syllabus had been launched by the previous Ajit Jogi Government to increase the number of doctors in rural areas. However, the Medical Council of India did not grant approval to the syllabus.
Following change of guard in the government, Chief Minister Raman Singh imposed a ban on the syllabus. Students, who had already obtained education under this system, were agitating since a long time demanding government job as promised by the previous government.
