Over 3,000 benefitted from KVIC job schemes

Shillong, Jun 24 (UNI) More than 3,000 people have been benefitted from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission's (KVIC) Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) in Meghalaya during 2007-08.

KVIC Chairperson Kumud Joshi, who is on a visit to the state, said Rs 1,078.56 lakh had been spent on 409 projects by the commission during 2007-08.

The Chairperson maintained that the projects focussed on the local sources venturing into development of products and providing various services for the consumers.

''In a bid to improve economic condition of the rural population, the KVIC is also planning to set up an institution to provide training to the local people,'' Ms Joshi added.

''There is no difficulty in marketing the finished products if they are manufactured by trained persons and the commission would try its best to ensure that these products register good sales,'' she stated.
