Glacier breaks on Ghanghariya- Hemkund road- 8 killed, 10 wounded
Dehra Dun, June 24 (UNI) At least eight pilgrims en route Hemkund Sahib were killed and ten injured when a glacier broke on Ghangharia, on the pedestrian road to the revered Sikh holy shrine, in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand last evening.
SSP Chamoli Pushkar Singh Selal told UNI today that two seriously injured pilgrims died on their way to hospital this morning.
He said the incident occurred around 1800 hrs when a glacier broke on the pedestrian road to the shrine, killing eight pilgrims on the spot. Rescue officials sprang into action and transported the injured to the Joshimath Army Hospital by helicopter, he added.
All of the pilgrims hailed from Punjab.
