Flood relief yet to reach majority people - NCP
Bhubaneswar, Jun 24 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) today alleged that majority people in the flood-hit Balasore district had been deprived of relief materials even after eight days.
NCP Orissa unit President Bijaya Mohapatra said about 90 per cent people affected by the flood in Balasore district had not received any relief.
Not a single officer was also found in the block headquarter to monitor and distribute the relief to the flood victims and no block headquarter has any stock of the relief material despite all tall claims of the government, he alleged.
Mr Mohapatra criticised Orissa Governor M C Bhandare and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for not meeting the flood victims during their visit to Balasore.
Both Governor and the Chief Minister, he said, landed at the Chandipur Defence base, a restricted and prohibited areas to review the relief operation. This was highly condemnable as a Defence base was used for political proposes.
Mr Mohapatra also alleged that the Airforce helicopters were misused by the Ministers during the relief operation. The state government, he alleged, had used the Chandipur Defence base as the relief centre to cover up its failure and apprehended largescale epidemic in the flood-hit areas.
