Stone pelting in Hupari over irregular gas supply

Kolhapur, Jun 21 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Hupari town of this district today after a mob began pelting stones on Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses, trucks and other vehicles demanding normalcy in distribution of cooking gas cylinders.

On June 18, an angry mob allegedly attacked Bharat Gas company dealer's office at Hupari for unexpectedly stopping distribution of gas cylinders citing shortage of cyclinders, while illegally indulging in black marketing of cylinders, police said.

When the company's top officer, Gopinathan Nayar, today visited the town, an all-party delegation, led by Sarpanch Subhash Kagale tried to explain the situation that prompted them to attack the office. But, Mr Kagale passed some ''unwanted'' remarks leading to stone pelting.

Earlier, the angry customers staged a 'rasta-roko' agitation on Hupari-Kolhapur road, demanding regular supply of gas cylinders.

Later, Hatkanangale tehsil tehasildar Satish Bagal rushed to Hupari and supplied gas cylinders and brought the situation under control, sources added.
