No political interference in appointment of judges : CJI

Kochi, Jun 21 (UNI) Chief Justice of India Justice K G Balakrishnan today categorically stated that there was no political intervention in the appointment of judges.

Speaking at the 'Workshop on Reporting of Court Proceedings by Media' here, Justice Balakrishnan said ''no politician or Chief Minister had ever called me and recommended anybody for appointment as judge.'' He said the appointments were made through the usual procedure after consultations with the collegium of judges.

Justice Balakrishnan was replying to remarks made by a speaker that the appointment of judges was not free from political intervention.
