Longest Day in Northern Hemisphere today
Hyderabad, Jun 21 (UNI) It was the longest day this year as the sun set on the horizon here after more than 13 hours today.
The sun rose at 05.44.27 (five hours 44 minutes 27 seconds) and set at Hyderabad at 18.51.41, making the day's duration the longest albeit with the skimping clouds across the skyline and stretching the sultry summer.
The duration of the day was 13.07.15 (thirteen hours seven minutes and fifteen seconds), the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere, according to astronomers here.
The day duration will diminish henceforth till September 21 when the day and night will be equal on the summer equinox. The day duration will keep shortening then till December 21 when the Northern Hemisphere will be enveloped through for the longest night.
The countries in the Southern Hemisphere, however, will witness the riverse with today being their longest night for them. December 21 will be the longest day in the Southern Hemisphere this year.
Interestingly, even as phoenix, the NASA's Mars lander was scooping the earth, the 'Red' planet shifted into constellation Leo today to join planet Saturn there.
