Court remands Rahim's men to police custody till July 2

Mumbai, Jun 21 (UNI) A local court today remanded three persons, including the bodyguard of Ram Rahim Singh, the spiritual leader of the Dera Sachcha Sauda sect, in police custody till July 2 for allegedly firing at Sikh protesters killing one and injuring two others.

Moving the remand application, the crime branch sleuths prayed for police custody as investigation was yet to be completed and few other people were to be examined in the case for which custodial interrogation of accused was necessary.

The accused have been booked under section 146, (rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with dangerous weapons) and 302 (murder).

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate N N Srimangle remanded them to police custody till July 2.

Those arrested were Jaidev Singh Gurusingh (30), the bodyguard of Ram Rahim Singh, who had allegedly fired; Satnam Singh Arora (34) and Rajkumar Bhishmalal Taneja (39) (all hailing from Haryana). They were arrested by the Raigarh police late last night for allegedly firing at protesters in Mulund killing one and injuring three others.

A group of Sikh community members held a protest against Ram Rahim Singh at Nirmal Lifestyle Mall in Mulund as he had come to attend a programme there.

Most of the educational institutes being run by the Sikh community will remain closed today to protest against the firing. A group of the community also made peaceful protest outside Mulund Police station.

Few people ransacked the Mulund railway station and some of them indulged in forcibly shutting down the shops in eastern suburb.
