Karunanidhi rules out rapprochement with PMK
Chennai, Jun 20 (UNI) Virtually ruling out revival of ties with its estranged ally PMK, the ruling DMK, heading the DPA in Tamil Nadu, today described it as a ''closed chapter''.
In a brief lalk with newspersons, DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said a functionary of the PMK had spoken so badly about the DMK and its ministers but it was not even willing to express regret for it.
''It is a closed chapter,'' Mr Karunanidhi said, when asked about a possible rapprochement between the DMK and the PMK, as envisaged by Dalit leader and VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan.
It may be recalled that the high level committee of the DMK had announced on June snapping of its ties with the PMK in the wake of Vanniyar leader and PMK functionary Kaduvetti Guru's derogatory remarks against the DMK leaders and ministers.
With the PMK too accepting the decision, Mr Thirumavalavan, acting as a mediator, met Mr Karunanidhi and got an assurance from him that the DMK would reconsider the decision of ousting the PMK from the DPA, if PMK expressed regret and take action against Mr Guru.
However the opportunity provided by Mr Karunanidhi was not utilised as the emergent meeting of PMK General Council said that it was in no mood to return to the DMK fold as the PMK workers welcomed its ouster from the DPA.
