Suvrathan appointed first Chairperson of FSSAI
New Delhi, Jun 19 (UNI) Mr P I Suvrathan (IAS, 1972 batch, H P cadre) has taken over as the first chairperson of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
He joined his duties from June 9, 2008.
Prior to this, he was working as Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and was actively involved in the initiatives required for growth of food processing sector in the country.
Established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, FSSAI lays down science-based standards for food articles and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
