Mock drill at Delhi Secretariat to check disaster preparedness
New Delhi, Jun 19 (UNI) A mock drill was undertaken today at the Delhi Secretariat to check the level of preparedness of various agencies and their response in case of a real disaster and safety measures to be undertaken during such situations.
A telephonic message had been received from Police Control Room at 1500 Hours about a bomb blast in the cafeteria area of Delhi Secretariat and emergence of a small fire and smoke engulfing the first floor of the building.
After receiving the message, PCR Vans and Fire Tenders rushed to the Delhi Secretariat along with team of senior officials to perform their duties. All officials present in the building were directed to leave the building immediately.
Various teams searched the nook and cranny of building for possibility of any bomb in any floor. A fire engine reached Cafeteria area of the Secretariat where fire smoke was billowing.
Fire Tenders took five minutes to put out the fire.
Later, it was revealed that it was a mock drill to check the state of preparedness of various agencies.
Such drills are meant to check the level of preparedness of various agencies and their response in case of a real disaster. They are organised to raise awareness and prepare the citizens in case of any disaster striking vital places. The drills are meant to ensure that the citizens and other agencies learn their role and overcome possibility of shock and fear.
Large number of employees of Delhi Secretariat realised various do's to save their lives during such emergency situations.
