Home Minister, Ex-Union Minister elected to Council
Bangalore, Jun 19 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya, former Union Minister M V Rajashekaran and five others were today declared elected unopposed in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council.
Karnataka Legislative Council Secretary V Shreesh, who is also the Returning Officer, said all the seven members in the fray were declared elected.
The other elected members were M Shankarappa, Bharathi Shetty, A Sidharaju (all BJP), A C Narayanaswamy and Former Minister M C Nanaiah (both JD-S).
The BJP, which has 116 members, including six independents as Associate Members, fielded four candidates.
The Congress, with 80 legislators, entered into an electoral understanding with the JD(S) fielding one candidate and extending support to two others fielded by the JD(S) which has 28 members in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly.
