Dehra Dun, June 18 (UNI) Students interested in the medical field here will no longer have to opt for colleges outside Uttarakhand as the first government medical college is set to be established this year.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri, while addressing mediapersons at the Secretariat here today, said the new medical college would be established at Srinagar in Pauri district of Garhwal and would start admissions from this year.
''After several years of wait, the Medical College of India has given its sanction for establishing this college,'' Mr Khanduri said.
He, however, lamented the fact that the college would have started functioning earlier, had the previous government initiated the process for its establishment, which had been pending since 2002.
The college would have an annual intake of 100 MBBS students for the academic session 2008-09.
The state also has one private medical college at Haldwani.
