Pondy bags Rs 1.83 cr by renewing licence of arrack shops

Puducherry, Jun 18 (UNI) The Puducherry administration has fetched an additional revenue of Rs 1.83 crore by renewing the licence of 86 arrack shops, out of the total 127 shops in the Union Territory and Karaikal regions.

District Collector Theva Neethi Das in a release here today said that the licence of the shops could be renewed with a five per cent enhancement of last year's bid amount. Accordingly, the licence of 73 arrack shops in Puducherry and 13 in Karaikal region were renewded. The balance 25 shops in Puducherry and 16 in Karaikal would be auctioned through internet.

Out of 95 toddy shops in Puducherry, the licence had been renewed for 73 and in Karaikal out of the 31 shops, ten shops renewed the licence. Auction for rest of the toddy shops in Puducherry and Karaikal would be auctioned through internet tomorrow and the day after, the relase added.
