Meghalaya MLA threatens stir against KHADC

Shillong, Jun 18 (UNI) Sitting MLA and Deputy Speaker in the Meghalaya Assembly Shulai has threatened to launch a stir against the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council's (KHADC) move to abolish the Laban-Mawprem council constituency.

The KHADC had proposed to abolish the Laban-Mawprem constituency for creation of another constituency in Ri-Bhoi district under the delimitation process which evoked sharp reactions from various quarters.

Mr Shulai, elected from the Laban constituency in the Assembly, said an agitation will be launched against the KHADC if it did not repeal its move to abolish the constituency.

The core committee, in its recent meeting headed by Mr Shulai, had decided to take up the matter with the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) government if the KHADC did not refrain from its proposal.

Expressing surprise over the move of the KHADC, the MLA said it had come as a ''bolt from the blue'' for the people of the constituency.
