K'taka CM to lay foundation stone for Airport

Shimoga, Karnataka, June 18 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will lay foundation stone for construction of Airport at Sogane village, about 10 km from here, on June 20.

Thus fulfilling long dream of providing air connectivity in Malnad region.

According to sources, the Airport will be constructed in a joint venture by government, M/s. Methois Infra Ltd and N.C.C.Infra Holding Ltd under ownership and management and handover system.

The aerodrome will be established in about 650 acres of land and will be completed by 2010 with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crores.

The land acquisition process was completed in April and 662.38 acres of land has been acquired for the purpose. Out of these 135 acres belonged to private owners and more than 300 acres belonged to 'Bagar Hokum' cultivators. About Rs 20.13 crores have been given as compensation. Rs Seven lakhs to irrigated land, Rs Six lakhs to dry land has been fixed. 'Bagur Hukkum' farmers have been given Rs Two lakhs each as compensation.
