Land rent case: Govt to set-up committee

Srinagar, Jun 18: The Centre and Jammu and Kashmir government have agreed to set up a committee to look into all pending land rent case and other cases, an official spokesman said today.

He said the committee of senior officers of the state government, Army and ministry of defence will be headed by Chief Secretary S S Kapur.

This, the spokesman said, was agreed upon during a high level meeting between Defence Minister A K Antony and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

He said the committee would address all pending land issues.

The meeting took up pending cases of vacation of land by the Army and decided to constitute a committee of senior officers of the state government, Army and the ministry of defence to address the issues.

The Defence Minister, who is here on a two-day visit to review the overall situation, said his ministry would take positive action on the cases pending for years. He said there was perfect coordination between the Army and the civil administration.

He called for further synergy during the coming months which could be full of challenges.

The defence ministry has recently increased the monthly rents of land and other buildings occupied by the Army in Jammu and Kashmir.
