BKU to 'gherao' Parliament to demand higher paddy MSP

Moga, Jun 18 (UNI) The Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) has decided to 'gherao' Parliament during the forthcoming monsoon season to protest against the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) recommending Rs 850 per quintal as the MSP for paddy this season.

This decision was taken at thhe BKU executive committee meeting held at Haridwar this morning. The meeting was presided over by BKU chief Mahinder Singh Tikait and was attended by members from Punjab, Haryana, UP, Uttrakhand, Delhi, HHimachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Disclosing this here, Punjab unit BKU general secretary Puran Singh said that the Haridwar meeting rejected the hike of Rs 105 per quintal over last years MSP of paddy and demanded that the price be fixed at Rs 1580 per quintal. The date of the protest will be decided next month, he added.
