Tripura University VC contemplates SAZ for backward regions
Agartala, June 17 (UNI) Tripura (Central) University Vice-Chancellor and renowned economist of the Northeast Prof Arunodoya Saha has suggested to declare Special Academic Zone (SAZ) like the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for all backward states of the country, including NE region.
Talking to UNI here today, Prof Saha said in the recent meeting on the UGC-revised pay structure in Guwahati with all Vice-Chancellors of Northeast, he had suggested the Prime Minister's economic advisor and leading economist of the country Prof G K Chadda to consider the proposal of SAZ for balanced academic advancement in the country.
''I believe educating the mothers of the nation should be the topmost priority and I also believe that the high population of a developed country like India is not a burden, rather an asset for the nation,'' he said, adding that the optimum use of human resources could change the scenario of the country.
Referring to SAZ, Prof.Saha said the academic incentives for backward locations of the Northeast would help the pace of development in both social and economic sectors and for that the government should offer incentives to the teachers and education facility providers for working in remote areas.
He, however, observed that the education infrastructure in backward regions had developed a lot in the past decade while the standard of education was not substantially upgraded at the same rate because of uniform facilities and salary compensation to the teachers for both urban and remote areas.
