Man charred to death in Chennai

Chennai, Jun 16: An aged man was charred to death while four others sustained burns when a Maruti Omni van in which they were travelling suddenly caught fire at St Thomas Mount here last night.

Police said Arasu (84), who was seated at the rear side of the vehicle, was returning home along with his relatives after attending a funeral at sub urban Avadi when the incident occurred.

Four people, including a woman and the driver, sustained burns and were admitted to a hospital, while Arasu, who could not escape, was charred to death. His body was sent to the government hospital for post-mortem.
