Shillong, Jun 16: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was heading towards rapid expansion of its telecom network and connectivity of mobile services in the NE-1 Circle of the states of the North East such as Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura by providing about two lakh lines by September 2008.
Talking to media persons here today, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, BSNL, Kuldip Goel, and Chairman-cum-Managing Director, BSNL, New Delhi, said more employment opportunities for the local youths would be opened through this expansion programmes.
About 500 more landline connections would be made by 2010 and there would be increase of broadband connections by wired line and wireless from two to five million.
Mr Goel said a call centre had been opened here to address the customers' queries regarding BSNL services. Reduced rates for calls had been made at Rs 1.20 per minute. Arrangements had been made with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to prevent cable network disruption.
He also said 3 G spectrum services would be introduced in the region soon.
