Woman falls off train, guard's effort to save her fails

Tiruchirapalli, Jun 15 (UNI) The efforts of an alert guard and other passengers in the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai Pallavan superfast express train to save the life of a 30 year-old woman passenger, who was found lying on the adjacent track, proved futile here today.

Railway sources said, the guard, who noticed the woman, immediately informed the engine driver, who stopped the train. The guard and other passengers then handed over the injured woman to the station authorities here.

However, when she was rushed to government hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.

The station authorities discovered that the woman, hailing from Alampatti, and travelling by Chennai-Kumbakkonam Rockfort express with a valid ticket, had slipped and fallen on the tracks.

Railway police have registered a case and were investigating.
