Pre-monsoon rains bring relief to Delhiites
New Delhi, June 15 : Pre-monsoon rains this morning brought a relief to Delhiites by bringing the maximum temperature four degrees below normal.
The minimum temperature recorded on Sunday morning was 27.5 degree Celsius, two notches below normal.
The maximum temperature on Sunday will be 33 degree Celsius according to Meteorological Department.
The rainfall was recorded as 0.5 mm till 10:30 AM in which showers were accompanied by lightning.
No reports of any damage were registered due to the rains, police said.
The Met department called the rains as pre-monsoon showers and forecast a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rains or thunderstorm in the coming days.
Heavy rains are also expected in some areas.
The Met had predicted an early onset of monsoon in Delhi this year.
The normal date of onset of monsoon in Delhi is June 29 and its arrival two weeks earlier marks the breaking of a 108-year-old record.
The Met had earlier indicated that the south-west monsoon was advancing across the country in much more smooth and rapid manner as compared to last year.
The annual rainfall system had set in over south Andaman Sea on May 10, five days earlier than the normal onset and reached Kerala on schedule on May 31.
The capital, which is experiencing one of the coolest summers in the recent times, has received record showers in May, which is known for heatwave conditions.
