Communal clash in Nasik leaves nine injured

Nasik, June 14 : At least nine people were injured in a violent clash between two communities here on Friday.

Officials said the violence was fallout of an ongoing conflict between the two communities.

Members of the two communities pelted stones at each other in Bagwan Pura area. The police had to resort to baton-charging the mob to bring the situation under control.

"People from the Valmiki community and Muslim community came face-to-face resulting in a violence. This is an old conflict between the two communities. I hope that the issue that frequently crops up is soon resolved," said Himanshu Roy, Commissioner of Police, Nasik.

Police fired four rounds of teargas shells as the situation turned violent. Nine people including five policemen were injured in the violence.

Tension prevailed till last evening as members of the two communities burnt motorcycles on the road.
