One killed, 15 houses damaged in rain fury

Mangalore, June 13 (UNI) A 30-year-old man was washed away in a canal while 15 houses were damaged in Dakshina Kannada(DK) and Udupi districts of Karnataka which is experiencing heavy rains during last one week.

The youth carrying a head load of rubber sheets died when he tried to cross the overflowing canal in Sullya, while ten houses, including on heavily, damaged in DK. In Udupi district five houses were damaged in rain today.

According official sources, heavy rains and gusty winds during the last two days damaged several houses in Padubidre besides uprooting over 50 trees.

A mobile shop was damaged when lightening struck last night in Karkala. Fire tenders who rushed to the spot extinguished the fire averting spreading of the fire to other shops.
