Man sentenced to ten years imprisonment for women trafficking
Agartala, June 13 (UNI) The Agartala bench of Gauhati High Court today awarded ten years imprisonment to a convict for abducting a teenager girl and selling her to a brothel outside the state.
According to the charges, Taru Das, a resident of Khowai area in West Tripura, had kidnapped a girl from Khowai and sold her to a brothel in Silchar in May 1993.
Later, she was abused and had to face physical atrocities in several places in Assam and Meghalaya for about six months.
Subsequently, Tripura police rescued her from Silchar and arrested 10 people of the women trafficking racket.
However, except Taru, nine others had been absconding after getting bail and they were still traceless, the police said.
