Free rice for low-income Mizoram families

Aizawl, Jun 13 (UNI) The Mizoram Government today decided to distribute free rice to families whose monthly income is less than Rs 10,000 and Rs 49.37 crores has been sanctioned by the Inter Ministerial Central Committee for the purpose.

This was announced here by Food and Civil Supplies Minister K.Sangthuama, after a meeting of the Mizoram Famine Emergency Committee.

The funds shall be spent on various items viz agriculture input subsidy (Rs 21.40 cr), gratitious relief (Rs 24.67 cr) and supplementary nutrition (Rs 3.30 cr).

However, no amount for wage employment to the Mautam famine-affected families has been set aside, the source added.
