Unemployed hands over bag containing Rs 2 lakh to police
Chandigarh, June 12 (UNI) In a rare example of honesty, an unemployed youth, Shamsher Singh, resident of Ambala district today handed over a bag containing US and Canadian dollars equivalent to over Rs two lakh at the Punjab Police headquarters here.
The bag also containing a citizenship card, passport, air tickets and other important documents was found by the youth while traveling to Delhi in a bus.
He handed over the bag to ADGP (crime) G D Pandey with the request to hand it over to the rightful owner. The ADGP checked the antecedents of owner from the passport and other documents.
The ADGP contaced the owner, Darshan Singh a US based citizen who is presently visitin his ancestral place in Hoshiarpur district.
The owner came here to collect the bag and while appreciating the gesture of Shamsher Singh gave a token award of Rs 10,000 to him. t The ADGP while appreciating the gesture of the honest youth said that the Punjab Police would recommend his name to the state government for an honesty award and a commendation certificate.
